The Opportunity

All Together Now (ATN) is a multi-year, place-based creative health programme delivered across six communities in the West of England through the Impact Alliance.

The programme brings together cultural, health and VCSE (Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise) partners with a shared ambition to reduce loneliness, strengthen belonging and build lasting community connection.

We are seeking a freelance evaluator to design and support a robust, proportionate and learning-led evaluation programme.

At its core, the evaluation will evidence behavioural change as a primary indicator of sustainable change, including participation, contribution, volunteering and strengthened social relationships, while also understanding wider community-level impacts and the conditions that enable connection over time.

The evaluator will work collaboratively with the ATN team, the Impact Alliance Research Fellow and the Impact Alliance “Understanding Impact” team (University of Bristol, University of Bath and University of the West of England) to ensure alignment with the Impact Alliance Common Evaluation Framework.

What the Role Involves

The appointed evaluator will:

  • Design and refine the ATN evaluation

  • Agree core measures (including behavioural indicators and a recognised loneliness measure)

  • Support practitioner reflection and learning

  • Ensure alignment with the IA Common Evaluation Framework

  • Produce an interim learning report and final evaluation report

  • Contribute to learning and dissemination events

Data collection will primarily be undertaken by ATN staff, practitioners and volunteers. The evaluator’s focus will be on framework design, synthesis, insight and learning.

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience evaluating creative, community or place-based work

  • Is confident working with behavioural and relational indicators

  • Can design proportionate mixed-methods approaches

  • Is comfortable with complexity and collaborative working

Application Process

Stage 1 – Application (Deadline: Monday 9th of March, 9am GMT)

Please submit:

  • A short CV (2–3 pages)

  • A brief written response (up to 1,000 words total) covering:

    • your interest in the role and in All Together Now

    • relevant experience of evaluating creative, community or place-based work

    • your approach to learning-led, participatory evaluation

  • An indication of your day rate and availability over the programme period

We welcome applications from individuals, teams of freelance evaluators or organisations. Interested parties are reminded that the fee is inclusive of VAT where applicable.

Stage 2 – Interview (Currently held for: Thursday 19th of March)

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a one-hour interview (online or in person) and asked to prepare a short outline (approx. 3–4 pages or circa. 10–12 slides) setting out their proposed approach. A £250 fee will be paid to shortlisted candidates for preparation time.

Together, we’re reimagining community, connection, and care. Join us in this journey to make a real difference.
