Our mission statement

Our vision

to make loneliness a stranger

The Impact Alliance – West of England is a pioneering collaboration formed in response to escalating social challenges (most notably loneliness and social isolation), which have been exacerbated by economic, demographic, and environmental pressures.

Initiated by the St Monica Trust and involving over 50 organisations from across sectors including the voluntary, statutory, academic, business, and faith communities, the Impact Alliance aims to transform how regional partners address complex social issues through collective action, innovation, and sustainable funding.

We are looking for partners and supporters to help realise our vision of making loneliness a stranger in the West of England.

The Impact Alliance

The Impact Alliance adopted the Promising Approaches Framework from the Campaign to End Loneliness, grounding our work in research and best practice.

We embrace a learning-led and flexible model that supports real-time evaluation, reflective practice, and transparent sharing of both success and failure. We champion a dual strategy of scaling effective existing projects while fostering experimental pilots in targeted local areas.

The Impact Alliance focuses on:

  • Delivering greater impact

  • Aligning behind a common vision

  • Breaking down silos through collaboration

  • Working strategically

  • Learning from communities

  • Taking risks and adapting

  • Seeking innovative models and solutions

  • Generating sustainable funding

Strategic approach

Pilot communities: Targeted work in four communities of place (Stockwood, Somer Valley, Charfield, and Mendip villages), and two communities of interest (global majority elders, and disabled young people).

Operating model: ‘Enablers’ embedded within pilot communities working closely with Impact Alliance members; and ‘change makers’ initiating and supporting local projects.

Funding: Anchored by an annual funding commitment from the St Monica Trust, with a broader ambition to leverage additional funding from both within and into the region.

Evaluation: Led by three local universities alongside Impact Alliance partners, a common impact measurement framework ensures outcomes are tracked and insights translated into action.

Key Components

We are trying to do something very different in terms of how programmes are designed and led, how funds are distributed, and how impact is assessed.

We’d love you to get involved and join us on our journey.

Manifesto

WE ARE A COLLECTIVE OF OVER 50 PURPOSE-LED ORGANISATIONS, UNITED BY THE vISION OF MAKING LONELINESS A STRANGER.

To belong – to a family, a tribe, a neighbourhood, a community – is to be human.

Loneliness is a natural emotion that we can all experience at different points in life. But when it becomes long-term, it can impact our health, well-being and even life expectancy. It touches every corner of society – age, race, class, and community.

By working together to address loneliness, we can strengthen connections, transform lives and build stronger, healthier societies.

WHO ARE WE?

wE BELIEVE IN A SOCIETY WHERE EVERYONE FEELS SEEN, HEARD AND VALUED

Where people have communities they're proud to call their own and where meaning, joy, and purpose are within everyone's reach. We're working to create a place where all of us - communities, councils, companies, charities and change makers - join forces in making loneliness a stranger.

WHAT ARE WE FIGHTING FOR?

No one should feel isolated or alone against their will

To belong – to a family, a tribe, a neighbourhood, a community – is to be human.

Loneliness is a natural emotion that we can all experience at different points in life. But when it becomes long-term, it can impact our health, well-being and even life expectancy. It touches every corner of society – age, race, class, and community.

By working together to address loneliness, we can strengthen connections, transform lives and build stronger, healthier societies.
